I was informed that my dedicated IP address requires a warm up period. What is the best way to go about it?
A
Answer

The assigned IP addresses are brand new and do not have a reputation (Neutral Reputation). The warm up process involves sending lower volumes of email for a period of time in order to allow ISPs to adjust to your sending practices so that you can eventually send much higher volumes. This process will vary depending on your intended daily sending volume.
Our documentation explains the process further, and our blog has numerous articles detailing the best ways to warm up your dedicated IP. Download Best IP warm up practice.

If I’m just starting to send mail, how do I build a good reputation?
A
Answer

The way to think about your email reputation is much like your credit score. When you haven’t sent any email, you don’t have a bad reputation but you don’t have a good one, either. Also, no ESP is going to allow you to send a million emails to their mailboxes, much like no one is going to give you a credit card with a huge credit limit when you graduate from college. There needs to be a history of performance for you to create a reputation. We use algorithms for our new senders that automatically queues your email and sends them at rates that make the ESPs happy, increasing those rates as your sending reputation grows.
Some of the factors that help you build a good reputation faster and increase deliverability are:

Limited spam complaints and bounces.
Including the ability, for recipients to unsubscribe.
Recipients interacting with your emails in a good way: reading, replying, forwarding and adding your addresses to their contacts.
Following ESPs’ guidelines on sending rates.
Paying attention to ESPs’ feedback to slow or stop sending for a period of time.
Having good content (see below for more guidance on content).
Also, consider letting your users reply to your emails. Having a meaningful email conversation with your audience will do wonders for your reputation as a member of email community.

Remember your account manager will be 24/7 online to help you with your email marketing campaigns, so relax and don't worry about all that.

Why does the amount of email I send matter?
A
Answer

Yes. Generally speaking, you don’t want too few IPs, in case you experience more volume than you expect and you don’t want so many IPs that you look suspicious or spread out your volume over too many IPs. There has to be a balance of volume to IP/domain. Sending too much volume from an IP, sending from too many IPs or sending too little from a range of IPs can all lead to deliverability issues.

Where can I learn more about Deliverability and Email?
A
Answer

One of the best resources is the blog Word to the Wise. Also, Return Path is a service that enhances deliverability and they publish a lot of great information through their blog and white papers. Below is are some best practices from the major ESPs.

Why not just get a dedicated server and use Sendmail + Postfix + Courier-IMAP?
A
Answer

You can but you should be aware that there is a constant battle raging between good and evil (i.e., spam) in the email universe. In order to be on the ‘good’ side of that battle and get your email delivered, there are numerous things you need to do. You need to have the right authentication infrastructure and register your IP and Domain appropriately. Also, you need to have the right server requirement and configuration, and you should be aware of email sending that complies with ESPs rules in order to build a good reputation.

Moreover, if you are going to receive, store and host emails, you better be prepared for maintaining this orchestra of software, take care of backups, hardware failures, security patches and monitoring. Stop kidding yourself, it’s not 1998 anymore. :-)

Very Nice!! But now, What about my privacy and security?
A
Answer

Tight Security:
Sendizo stores your lists on servers in an SAS70, Type II certified Data Center with 24x7x365 on-site management and guarding, multi-layered security systems including closed circuit television surveillance, electronically-controlled card access, multiple biometric scanners, key card readers and facility-issued photo IDs. The data center is self-contained, with redundant climate control and re suppression, as well as UPS-redundant battery back-up with multiple backup generators to maintain continuous power. The facility is rated a Tier 3 data center built to withstand harsh meteorological events like floods, hurricanes, and blizzards.

Total Privacy:
Having dedicated servers outside of your company ensures greater privacy for your business information. This minimizes the intentional or inadvertent leakage of sensitive data to unauthorized parties. Sendizo offers exclusive, private IP addresses and VPNs to ensure that you receive the highest degree of privacy that meets your company’s specific needs.
